1. Model Creation

Everything begins with the conception and design of the ring. The jeweler may sketch the piece by hand, use 3D software (CAD) to create a detailed digital model, or sculpt it directly in jewelry wax. This special wax is soft enough to be shaped with precision, allowing every detail—such as the form of the prongs or the contours of the piece—to be carefully defined. The wax model is an exact representation of the ring in its final form, but without the shine and durability of metal.

2. Casting and Pre-Finishing

This is the stage where the model is transformed into metal. The wax model is placed in a container and covered with a refractory plaster. The assembly is then heated in a furnace, where the wax melts and drains away, leaving behind a perfect cavity. Next, the precious metal (gold, silver, or platinum) is melted and poured or injected into this cavity. Once cooled, the plaster is broken away, revealing the ring in its raw form.

At this stage, the piece is still rough, with residues and excess material. The jeweler then begins the sanding and initial polishing process to remove imperfections and prepare the surface for the next step.

3. Stone Setting and Finishing Touches

This is the stage that brings the ring to life. If the piece includes gemstones, they are carefully set by a specialist. The setter uses fine tools to secure each stone, ensuring they are perfectly aligned and display maximum brilliance. There are various setting techniques, such as prong, bezel, or pavé, depending on the design.

After the stones are set, the jeweler performs the final polishing to achieve a mirror-like shine and conducts a thorough inspection to ensure the security of the setting and the overall quality of the finish. The ring is then ready to be worn.
